Can you tell me what it says about center LATCH in an '03 Taurus. I keep reading that you can only borrow anchors for the center if the car manual says it's okay and the carseat manufacturer allows non standard spacing. I would have sworn in my owner's manual it says the anchors are evenly spaced. Is that unusual?

I could do it, but I don't have that many posts here. So if someone who is a better known member would like to start it I would gladly jump in.

The '01-'07 Taurus allows two outboard LATCH installs or one center LATCH install. (And there's a recall on the '01 LATCH.)

Yeah, the Taurus is a little unusual. You're right - there are 4 evenly spaced anchors, creating 3 LATCH positions. The center is a designated LATCH position with standard spacing, so you don't need the seat mfgr's ok to use LATCH in the center. Just be aware that you can't use center and outboard LATCH at the same time (you'd have to put 2 hooks on the same anchor and that's a big no-no) If you have more questions the owners manual does a great job explaining it.

If that was directed at me I'm guessing you haven't read the whole thread. Most of the replies weren't really relevant.

I don't really *need* to know the answer anyway though.
huh umm no it was directed at post #1 in this thread

Yes, the LATCH anchors in the vehicle. And.... Yes, LATCH manual states that the recall does apply to the Sable as well. Here's the text from page 227:
Recall: 2001 Sable; Certain units built prior to August 16, 2000: Lower anchors may not be adequately attached to the floor pan. Dealer will re-install the nuts properly. If vehicle has not been repaired, contact Ford at 800-392-3673 (Ford Recall No. 00S23, NHTSA Recall No. 00V240.)

2 Questions:

How bad would it look if I rolled into my tech class with my very own LATCH manual?

I'm CONSIDERING heading up a group order.
Would I have to have all the manuals shipped here and then ship them to all who ordered them?

I might be willing to organize, but I don't have the money for all that extra shipping.

How it works is you compile the order - keep track of who wants how many. Then find out what the total will be for the manuals including the shipping for them to get to you - get a quote, don't pay for them yet, then divide it by the number of people so that each is paying for their manual plus shipping to you.

Then once they've arrived, you send everyone info about shipping. You mail them out as each person pays for their shipping - having people pay through paypal is easiest because you can often print shipping labels right there - although international addresses you can't always, and sometimes domestically depending on weight fedex can be cheaper than USPS.

Anyways, the "host" doesn't put anything extra out of her pocket - it's just extra work in collecting & tracking payments, placing the order, packaging and collecting/tracking shipping payments and then mailing them. Some coop hosts will charge a small fee to cover packaging costs.

Does anyone with a LATCH manual know the weight of it? It might be a good idea to weigh it and find out the cost of shipping it from whoever orders it to the other participants. If it's expensive to mail, sometimes it counters the savings from a group buy, so it's good to know that ahead of time.
