No Head rest and LBB

What do you do in a situation where you have 3 across and there is no headrest in the middle? For ex. I have a mazda 6 with 3 across. Currently I don't need to worry about the no headrest as my 5 year old is still in a radian. When it comes to the point where he will need a LBB and my other kids are in a LBB how does that work with no head rest in the middle? Just curious :)

As long as the child using the booster still has head SUPPORT (to the top of the ears), it's okay. Once all the children are in NBB or seatbelts alone, and once one has reached the point that he/she no longer has head support, you no longer have a safe situation. :(

How old are the other children?

Also, hopefully by the time the youngest outgrows the tallest HBB available, the oldest is old/big enough to 5-step up front.

I currently have a 5 year old (youngest) in a radian he is on the last slot, a 6 year old (53 pounds 49 in) in a LBB because of the way the backseat is I can't find a HBB that fits good, and my 7 year old (48 pounds 49in) also in a LBB because of the seats. I still have a ways to go because my 5 year old will be harnessed til he out grows the radian then be moved to a HBB if I can find one that fits good with 3 across. He is no where ready for a booster yet. (my 5 year old) I was just curious since every where I read no head rest means its not safe.

It will be a while before it's a worry - at least the kids are not super tall for their ages or anything!
What is unsafe is no support behind the head. But if the seatback itself is tall enough (or, rather, they are short enough) for the tops of their ears to be below the seatback then that is fine.
