Hi!

We have a Subaru Outback 2008, 2 kids, and a baby due in May. I am really hoping we can get 3 car seats in this car so we don't have to buy a new one. We'll have an infant, a 2 year old, and a 4 year old. I'd prefer to keep the 4yo in a high back chair with a harness; he's not 40 lbs and I'm not willing to put him in a regular booster with a seat belt yet.

We currently have a Britax Marathon for the 2yo, a Graco Nautilus 3-in-1 for the 4yo, and a Chico Cortina KeyFit 30 for the baby, but I am happy to buy all new car seats to avoid buying a new car. My primary concern is safety.

Can anyone provide input on 3 car seats that will fit in 52 inches of space? Many thanks!

Welcome! You may be able to get away with only buying 1 seat for your 4 yr old. The Evenflo Maestro is a narrow seat and I'm not positive on the SecureKids, but they might work as well since they're based on the Maestro shell.

Is your 2 yr old still rear-facing? Generally carseats puzzle better when they're next to another seat that's facing a different direction, like ff-rf-ff or rf-ff-rf. I'd keep the 2 yr old rf, however, because it's so much safer.

If you need a carseat for the 2 yr old as well, try a Radian or even a Peg Perego Convertible. They're among the narrowest on the market.

Your baby should be fine in the KeyFit. It's a great, narrow seat.

I have a 2010 Subaru legacy. I currently have 2 radians and a safe seat infant seat. The radians are both ff. before this I had a classic marathon and safe seat and radian. They fit but there isn't much room. When I used the marathon I had to use seatbelt install with it but with radians are both installed with latch.

I think the 2008 are slightly narrower and have a higher center seat but those are the seats I have in now.

Good luck.
