Need some suggestions for my 5 y/o stepson

I need some seat suggestions for my 5 y/o (6 y/o on May)stepson(to be). Here is the situation:

My fiance and I live with his mom (stepsons grandma) at the time being. She picks him up every saturday to come over and she has an Apex65 in her Jeep. That is the only day of the week he is at our house, unless there is a rare cirsumstance that he comes over another day, but the rarely happens...

Fiance and I are moving about 30-45 mins away to our own house soon (if we get the house we want), so I am probably going to need to buy a seat for stepson. The thing is I'm not sure when he will actually use it, bc I have no idea what the vistation situation will be. Grandma will still get him on Saturdays I know for sure and being that we wont exactly live really close he probably won't be at our house and if he is she will bring him. I guess when the time comes my fiance will have to decide when he is going to visit. My thoughts is it will not be that freq. Esp bc pretty soon fiance is going to be working weekends only.

Okay so all that said, which was probably more wordy than it needed to be...

Fiance and I are going to need to have a seat for him available.

He weighs like 41-42lbs... well that was a couple months ago...I doubt he has gained weight bc he doesn't eat much, I'm guessing he may even loose a little when summer comes. I'm not really sure how tall he is, I did know but I forget and like I said he's not with us much so I always forget to get measurements. he is short though, his 4 y/o sister is as tall as him. Most 5 y/o tower over him. He fits nicely in his Apex65, has some growing room in the harness, prob an inch or so maybe more. Chances are he's not having a growth spurt soon bc his dad is short. With his mom and other grandma he rides in a booster(LBB i think) or well nothing. They aren't too carseat savy.

I would prefer to keep him in a harness bc he is 1. small for his age (smalll frame) 2. he is a car sleeper 3. he does not sit still AT ALL. Although I'm sure he could learn to sit still if someone enforced it. I don't wanna shell out a bunch of money either. I would love a frontier, but I'm not spending that much $ for a seat thats rarely used.

I have a 20 month old son that ERF in 2 RNXTSL and a Classic MA. I have also considered getting him another seat and using one of his RN for stepson. I have been itching to buy my son a CCO. He is pretty small for his age so would prob fit forever. He is in the 3rd harness slot on his RN and 2nd on his MA. Weighs 23-24lbs.

I don't really know what I want to do. I have a couple months to decide. I should probably just call it a day and buy him a turbobooster, but I just want to get some other opinions.

At his size, and if he does indeed still fit in the Apex heightwise (shoulders under the top slots) the Evenflo Maestro would be a nice, budget-friendly seat for him. The Graco Nautilus would work as well, but be more costly.

He is def below the top harness slots on his APEX. I thought about the Maestro. I wish it had a higher weight limit, but then again he prob won't hit that weight for a long time. I want to buy a nautilus, but my son is obessed with them...and he will not be FF for a long time so I would hate to put one in my car or fiances car bc he might flip out. In walmart if we walk through the carseat aisle he leaps out of arms practically to get into the Nautilus lol!

If you decide to keep him harnessed, I would go with a Maestro. If he is only around 40lbs this summer, it'll last him for while. You can always make the decision to use it as a booster even when he hasn't outgrown the harness.

If you decide to go with the booster seat, then the Graco Turbobooster would be first choice too.

Do you think he is mature enough to sit properly in a booster seat? That would be the deciding factor for me.

He prob is mature enough, I just don't like the idea of it. Like I Said he rides in a booster with his mom and everyone else, but I doubt he sits correctly bc no one prob makes him.I feel better with him in a harness, even though I know they say at his age it's no safer either way. I'll prob keep my 20 month harness forever as long as he fits.

2008 dodge nitro and a 2001 jeep Cherokee... No he doesn't have to be side by side with my son... At least for another year or greater when I have another one
