Need help with radian in 2002 Cherokee

I swear this seat was solid when I first installed it a couple of months ago but when I went to buckle him in Nana's car ('02 Cherokee) the seat was swinging and swaying all over.

The shoulder belts do not ratchet or lock when pulled at the correct angle for the install of the radian. They will lock if you tug them at 90 degrees but once you let it pull back in and the angle is no longer 90 then they are slack. The latchplates are different than the locking ones in the center (so not locking?) and I did have the tether installed, but that seat was movin'.

I moved him from the center "seat" when we FF him since the center "seat" was just a deformed piece of foam that doesn't hold anything up anymore. Like the unsupported edge of something after it has been sat on for years.

Any input?

BTW this is for my 42lb 4.5yo.

If the locking latchplate is slipping, you can flip the male end of the buckle (latchplate end) 180 deg before buckling. That usually does the trick. Alternatively, you can use the locking clip that came with your seat (it's in a little storage spot on the back near the top). Does Nana need to take the seat out and reinstall often?

Thanks, I will dig out that locking clip.

No, in fact she only needs this seat to work for a week. So I have been trying to tell her to keep my car and I can use her car while she has DS. We are moving across country and Nana is staying here.

Let us know if you need any assistance with the locking clip install. There are pretty decent instructions in your Radian manual but we'd be happy to talk you through it if you need.

You could also try twisting the buckle stalk down up to 3 full turns. That will shorten it and might help the latch plate stay at the right angle to stay tight. I know that help in our Dodge truck for installing seats with the seatbelt.
