LATCH ROUTAN HELP

I have a VW Routan minivan. Recently, my child exceeds the weight capacity for the LATCH system. He is in a Frontier and in the 3rd row. I wanted to change him to the seatbelt, however, the tether does not line up when the seat is installed with the seat belt. The anchor for the tether is more in the center of the 3rd row, and there is no seat belt there. using the tether causes the whole seat to be on an angle....any suggestions?

Hi there!

The Routan is the same body style as the Grand Caravan/Town & Country, no? (It's possible I'm completely wrong.)

If so, those used to (possibly still do...it's been a while since I've been in one) have a tether anchor that was kind of between the driver's side and center seat for the third row, so you could use it for either seating position (but not both at the same time).

If that's the case, it should be fine. You only need to remove the slack from the tether, not get it rock-solid, so it shouldn't affect the angle of the seat. It might be a good idea to post photos, though, so we can see for sure what's going on.

You should definitely have a seatbelt in the center seating position.

I found a picture of the 3rd row of a 2011 Routan, the center seat belt comes from the ceiling. There will be instructions in your owner's manual on how to connect it. The odd looking buckle hanging from the bottom of the belt will fit into the odd looking buckle in the seat, then it will function like a normal seat belt.
