lap belt install in 4-Runner

I was just wondering if using a lap belt only was a safe install? I have an 00' Toyota 4-Runner and prefer a center install for comfort of all passenegrs. The problem is that the center only has a lap belt. We have a Britax Marathon so I know that I can use the lock-offs and have before so that is no problem. I just want to ensure that the lap-belt only install is safe. I plan to rear-thether it as well if that matters at all. Also, for the record my son is 8 months old, 17.2 pounds and 27 inches total. I have no idea how long his torso is and doubt I will be able to get an accurate measurement since he doesn't seem to want to sit still!

A lap belt install id fine. It can actually be easier to do sometimes. You can still run the belt through the lock offs, but it is not neccesary. The locking latchplate on the lapbelt will keep your belt locked. I you are not able to lock the lock offs closed it is fine.

I'll second that. My dad has a 98 (I think) 4runner and we have a fisher price safe voyage deluxe-a watered down marathon...without lockoffs. I get a great install in his car rf. Rock solid without a rf tether (can't rf tether the fpsvd) we have taken several trips in his car and I've never had any problem. It is an easy install because you can just pull the belt tight while pressing the seat in.
