We were in need of a twin or toddler bed, and my mom picked up one at a free garage sale at a church, and it came with a matching crib. I've been "against" getting used cribs, but we set up the one she brought and it's SOLID. Stationary sides, all parts included. Converts to a toddler bed (actually the toddler bed it came with is really the same crib, just missing the rails for the crib conversion) and the date is "0508" on one and the other I can't tell if it says "05" "06" or "08". But the "0508" one I'm not sure which is the month/year since it's made in Romania.
Anyway, I tried looking for recalls and reviews and only came up with great reviews and the fact that it's now discontinued. Here's my big issue: the matress (standard size) gaps where it meets the slats. Less than 2 fingers wide, which I think is the rule, but it makes me nervous. Our cribs are snug.
I don't currently need another crib, but there's a good possibility I would need another. We're a foster family with 2 infants right now, so if we get another baby by birth or placement before one baby is ready to be out of a crib, we'd need another. Also, the Ikea one would be good to send home with DFD if she goes home and needs a crib. But IS IT SAFE to have the small mattress gap? I would only use it for an older baby/toddler (since the head/foot ends are solid wood and I prefer slats all around for better air circulation for little babies) which means they'd be able to stand in the crib and I worry that they could slip down and get a leg stuck if the mattress flexes at the edge.
