If a child passes the 5 step test would you use a lbb?

Most folks do NOT find the Monterey much taller, if any, than the Britax Parkway/Monarch. A couple people found it a couple of inches taller, but most Monterey owners agree it's pretty much the same height.

Very strange. Is it that the height of the Montereys being produced are inconsistent?

I have no clue. I just know I started a thread recently asking about the Monterey height, because my own 7yo is pushing 4'6" and outgrowing many highback boosters. The concensus on my thread was that the Monterey is not any taller than the Parkway/Monarch. Emandbri also has a poll thread going, asking Monterey owners how tall their seat goes. Only a couple got a measurement taller than the Britax boosters, everyone else got the same height.

I'm also not sure I want to spend $140 to get what might amount to 1 or 2 inches. We have the monarch, an airbooster, and a nautilus that can be used as a booster. We do have side airbags so, as much as I would like to see him in a hbb, I really can't justify the cost of a monterey, especially not knowing if it's really taller or not.

Keep in mind that at that age 1-2" can amount to 2-3 years :p

Not that I'm saying a NBB is the wrong decision. I would be completely comfortable with an 8 year old in one, myself.

okay...that video...I'm having a hard time underatdnign how a nbb would prevent the kid/dummy from flying forward the way he did? I underatdb he would have been up a couple inches, but woudln't he still have flown forward?

My understanding is (and someone please correct me if I'm wrong) is that being in a booster helps keep the lap belt positioned correctly and helps keep the child from sliding under the seatbelt.

:yeahthat:

The backless booster will not prevent the dummy/child from flying forward; it will help prevent the dummy/child's lower body from submarining under the seatbelt (which would allow the belt to ride up onto the soft tummy and cause internal injury or death).

Yep, even if they pass the 5 Step Test, I'd recommend a LBB until puberty because the iliac crest can deform and the child can submarine under the lap belt.
