How does a Regent have SIP?

This may be a dumb question, but other than the fact that it's a harnessed seat how does a Regent have side impact protection?

I've been watching crash test videos and it seems like seats with head wings tend to do better; is this generally the case?

Thanks for any thoughts.

Yes, every 5-point harness provides SIP :) *I* do like more substanial wings on boosters however and yes in crash testing it does seem like more substaintal wings offer more SIP.

*I am not a tech, so I will let the techs explain things in more technical terms ;)

Every harnessed seat provides side impact protection. Beyond that, the hard shell and the sides that it has provide additional protection. You are correct that headwings and deep sides provide more SIP.

The thing to keep in mind is that we do not have side impact standards or government testing in North America. Side Impact Protection is a marketing term, and manufacturers can make almost any claim they want to make.

The entire shell is also made from a special type of plastic that is more energy-absorbing than most plastics.

Thank you guys for the replies--I totally forgot about this thread

For a child low on the maturity scale who also likes to sit cross-legged, would you suggest going to the Regent after the Nautilus is outgrown? My next step was going to be the Monterey booster, but after learning recently that we could harness longer in the Regent, I'm thinking that might be a better choice even though it would mean foregoing the SIP of the Monterey. He does have some room in the Nautilus, 6 to 12 months maybe, although he is growing like the proverbial weed!

Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

If a child does not have the maturity to sit correctly in a booster and booster training does not work (or it is clear it WILL not work), then yes- a properly used harness seat over booster any day of the week

That's kind of what I'm thinking, I'm not sure where he'll be in another 6 months but for now it's pretty clear that it is not working/will not work.
