HELP - 7 year old in lap belt only need solutions

A mom on another board has her 7 year old a lap belt only - he is too tall for most harness seats.

she has a two door 1992 Mitsubishi Mighty Max

my first thought was a vest and retro fit a tether - but according to the latch manual TA's can't be retro fitted.

I called EZ-ON and they said they have a vest that can be anchored to the floor? anyone know anymore???

or can anyone think of any other options I'm not thinking of.

Mom is disabled and needs to be on the passanger side for the leg room when they all ride together - if mom isn't with them then the little one is sitting outboard.

this is thier only vehicle and no way to get another one right now.

There are heavy duty tether anchors that can be retrofitted. E-Z on sells them.

The Frontier85 or Regent (if you can find one) are the tallest harnesses available.

I don't think a Regent or even a Frontier would work in a three-across with two adults, though. I suggest working on a heavy-duty tether and vest.

Pickups are pretty easy to retrofit a heavy duty tether anchor in actually. The seatbelts anchor at the floor just behind the seats. The seats fold forward for easy access. If you remove the bolt holding the seat belt anchor, you can add the HDTA onto the bolt (putting silicone sealant between all pieces of hardware so engine exhaust can't enter the passenger compartment) and put it back in.

I suggest having a certified mobility specialist shop (the kind were you get vans converted, not the kind that sells power chairs) do the work, or at least check with them first, as you may need a longer bolt or the nut may be a once-time use part.
