Harnessed booster rec

Hi all.

Back after a long time. Long story short...divorced (long long sad story, but I won't go there) and in need of a harnessed booster.

My car: 2010 Kia Forte

Two DD. DD1 - 8, 49inches, 47lbs. She is currently in a backless booster in my car. She is in backless booster mode of a Nautilus in ex-wife's car

DD2 - 4 3/4, 42inches, 46lbs. She is currently in an evenflo harnessed booster but I really don't like it, and I feel it is too short for her. She is in a MyRide 65 in my ex-wifes car. *By the way, both the Nautilus and MyRide were recommendations from here...so thank you.*

So, I need to get a better fitting harnessed booster for my almost 5 year old. I guess I could go belt adjuster; I think she would be ok but I am not sure.

Her only requirement, and she is adamant on this, is that it is blue. She doesn't care if it is all blue (well, she would LOVE it) or some blue, or a bit of blue, but she really really wants blue.

My requirement: it is safe, fits her and the car, and can grow with her. Also budget is tight as ... let's just say divorce is expensive. It doesn't matter to me where I purchase it...store, online, wherever.

Thanks everyone, and you all provide a wonderful service.

Thank you.

Graco Nautilus, Evenflo SureRide, Evenflo Securekid would work. Finding blue will be the fun part.

The SureRide will work for now, but my understanding is that it won't become a booster later, if that is important to the parent.

Troyv, have you ever used your older daughter's Nautilus in your car? Or was it only ever installed in your ex-wife's car? If you know it fits well in your car and it fits your budget, I would go with that. The "Carson" pattern has some blue on it, although I am partial to the "Gavit" pattern, myself.

My first thought for blue was a Recaro ProSport but it's not really budget friendly.

I'd like if it became a booster. I'll be living very thrifty for the next 3 years. I have never used the Nautilus in my car. Not sure how it would fit. The Nautilus is a bit more expensive than I want, but it's for my daughter's safety and that is really most important. I'll check out the Carson pattern with her today at Target.

Okay, so as far as I can tell, the measurements of your current Safety 1st seat are here: http://www.car-seat.org/showthread.php?t=151090

So it looks like the top slots of that seat are 14.75" and the overall internal seating height is 25".

A Nautilus (if you could convince her that Carson is blue enough) would give you 18-18.5" top slots (depending on the model) and 28-29" of internal seating height.

I'd also take a look at the Pioneer 70. It has a harness height of 18.5" and a shell height of 29" like the Nautilus. It doesn't convert to a backless booster, but it will work as a harnessed seat and then as a high back booster. http://carseatblog.com/22545/review-of-the-britax-pioneer-70-a-pioneering-new-seat/

The Garden Gate color looks blue to me when I see it on my computer screen, but I've never seen it in real life.

Umm, ouch. Yeah, that's kind of out on budget. Looks wise it is awesome. It's so strange that HBB with no barness are less than $100, but HBB with harness are all $150 and up.

There are less-expensive combination seats (like the Evenflo Maestro), but it's true that there are very few options with blue! I am surprised! It seems like a lot of manufacturers have several pink options and then just brown or grey or black for the rest. :-(

OOH! I just found this one: http://www.kmart.com/evenflo-booste...pid=024W004795916001&kispla=024W004795916001P

Top harness height is 18", although the internal seating height overall is 26", so not hugely tall on that front. I don't know why I couldn't find that color elsewhere, maybe it's a kmart exclusive?

If it's the seat you linked, she's 6lbs over the weight limit in harnessed mode, so she needs a new seat before she rides with you again.

How often is she with you? I usually won't say anything about a highback booster until someone has a kid that's at least 5, but if she's mature, and is usually with you for shorter daytime rides, it might be a good choice.

The Harmony Defender might be a good choice. It's at WalMart. No blue, but it's under $100 and makes a good booster, too.

She's with me 50% of time. Once spring is actually here it will be longer car rides. I had no idea about weight limit. Ok. Need ASAP then. We are at target. Give you an idea of her likes

I'm not sure Target has any harnessed boosters that will fit your dd in blue. Unless yours has the blue(ish) Nautilus. Can you borrow the Nautilus from your ex wife until you can order another seat for your dd? Otherwise I would bring her home in something from Target that fits her, even if its a cheap backless booster until you an get something more age appropriate.

I don't really know anything about that one. Hm. My first reaction was "ew, no" because Eddie Bauer is usually what we see on those awful 3-in-1s that have a terrible booster fit. That one may be totally fine, though. Whatever you buy, if you can get it together without tools and try it in the parking lot, I would. Make sure the lap belt is low on her hips/touching her thighs, and that you can get a good shoulder belt fit. If not, you can return it right on the spot.

Can you see if they have the Britax Pioneer in "garden gate" while you're there? Looks pretty blue on my screen but seeing it in person might be a good idea.

Isn't it better to get a harnessed booster?

If you have a smartphone with you when you're out shopping, and you test a seat in the parking lot, take a pic and post it with her in it and we can tell you if the fit is acceptable.

My sister lives three miles away and lent me one of her backless boosters.
