gap behind HBTB

So I just realized that there is a gap between the HBTB and the truck seat. I know the manual says there can't be a gap, but I'm wondering why? I can take a pic in a little bit to give you a better idea. Thanks.

Well no back boosters work best but I was babysitting for a 6 year old and just couldn't bring myself to use a no back for him. I have a vivo in there now. There is still a gap between the vivo and the vehicle seat back but the vivo directions say no large gaps and I decided that I could live with this sized gap. I have heard that the evenflo big kid and the compass boosters work best with my kind of fixed headrests. However, because I'm babysitting I needed a booster that positioned the belt correctly on all children and the big kid and the compass are not the best for that.

The compass was worse than the turbo in my car. Like way way worse.

Just for reference, if anyone needs to know, I would chalk the Compared b570 and the Subaru Tribeca completely incompatible. The HBTB was borderline. The Maestro fits like a dream under the headrest.

I'm thinking I'll have to get a Clek when my son outgrows the harness on the Maestro, but I plan to try an SGL just in case because my son would LOVE the cardinal color and it is about $200 cheaper :) Yikes, I didn't want to drop three hundy on a booster but ya do what you have to...especially when you looooove your car otherwise and it is paid for and you don't want another!

I believe Compass boosters are designed for headrests.

If it fits your child, it does work great with the fixed headrests. We rented a Chevy Impala and it has the annoying built in headrests in back, but DD's Compass fit great and had no problems leaning or being unstable at all. It had very little gap in back and overall worked great.

It does NOT, however, work well on a bench seat. I put it in DH's pickup to go help the preschool move into their new building and it was tipping all over the place. I went and got the Marathon to use instead.

I added some pics. It's hard to get a good pic. I tried using my finger to show how wide the gap is. The last pic is of her in the seat, doesn't make much of a difference with her weight in the seat. Is this an acceptable gap?

Looks like what I get in the middle of my Sienna when I dont take off the headrest...I've found that if I recline the vehicle seat a few clicks, the gap is gone, esp when DS sits in the seat -- I need to scour both manuals and see if that's allowed though.

Yeah, I can't remove the headrest or recline the seats.

That is about what my gap was with the turbo. I made the decision to use it. No one here was able to give me a definitive yea or nea. I how you get a more clear answer.

I had that gap with my HBTB in a Jeep Patriot and decided I wasn't comfortable with it. But my gap was a bit bigger than that! Here's a pictureI replaced it with an Evenflo Amp HB after reading on here that it was a good one for built in headrests that don't remove or seats that don't adjust. Much better fit for the car and works well for my skinny kids (not sure how well it would fit bigger kids...looks like it would be tight). Here's a pic of the TB, don't have one of the Amp at the moment, I can get one tonight if you want.
