Flying and Car Seats

My husband & I are flying this Friday. It's a 3 hour flight and we have 3 yr. old TWINS! I think it is better and safer to bring their car seats on the plane.
Yes, I'm sure it will be a hassle, but I think they may sit better in the car seat & they are on the small side.

We have Britax Roundabouts. Do I just put the car seat in the seat and just use the belt? I feel a little clueless about how to do the seat. Obviously it can't be tethered. Of course my manual is hiding somewhere!!

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thank you.

Yes, all carseats in the US must pass testing when installed with a lapbelt-only, so installing it on the plane with the lapbelt will be fine. :) Just buckle and tighten.

That page might be useful for you - when I took my 3 year old on the plane last spring, I printed a page from the FAA to bring with me just in case (sure enough I did need to show it to a flight attendant)

Also, I found installing our Wizard much easier RF than FF (I was bleeding trying to install FF) - however, DD was a bit uncomfy at 1st because the plane belt buckle ends up right in the middle of her seat - I lifted up the cover so it was under some cushion then put her blankey on top of that so her butt was comfy ;)

Have a safe & fun trip!

Check under your cover for your manual - there should be one permanently attached.

I've also been told that if you are installing on the airplane forward facing, you need to flip the plane's buckle over once before buckling it. Otherwise, there won't be any room to lift the flap up to unbuckle when you reach your destination. It also helps to recline the plane's seat, install your seat, then return the plane's seat to the upright position.

oh, I would highly recommend taking that print out! We did not last time we flew with a carseat and we faced major protests from flight attendents and had a major altercation with one horrible woman.

Thanks!

Thank you all for your help!

I printed out those pages in case there's an issue. We're flying Jet Blue and I've only heard good things about them, so hopefully no one will give us a hard time.

I just hope they behave somewhat!

Thanks again!

Last year, when Leila was barely 3 & RF on the airplane, I packed her own small Goody Bag for carryon containing: mini playdough containers, silly putty, Crayola "invisible magic" finger paint & the paper that goes with it (found at Kmart & Staples here), a couple of her favorite books, some small finger-sized puppets, her silky play scarf & a walkman with her favorite music on a mix tape ;) This kept her thoroughly entertained for the flight & waiting around in the airports  Oh, I also brought vitamin & sugar-free gum for take-off & landing ... to help with the ear pressure!
