Finally:
Please look over and send an email or two! Hopefully this will be the year...
Sent from the Junior League of Florida.
After more than six years of hard work, the Junior Leagues of Florida finally has booster seat legislation in committee in both the House and Senate! The following list of emails are for those legislators that are reviewing proposed bills HB443 and SB956 that the Junior League has worked so hard on bringing to life. If you are in support of these proposed bills we ask that you join us in asking for support from our legislators to approve both bills into law. Our devoted JL Member Elaine Fusco has worked tirelessly on these measures and needs our support in asking our legislators to approve these bills. I am attaching a link to both bills for you to review.
We are asking you to send the attached letter to both groups, House and Senate, with the appropriately attached bill # asking them to support it.

Thank you ladies for your continued support of SPAC issues on behalf of
the states children and families.
PAY PARTICULAR ATTENTION TO THE BILL NUMBER YOU REFERENCE IN THE LETTER. HB IS FOR HOUSE MEMBERS (See Attached Lettter Below )
(Example Letter below)
I am writing to urge you to support HB443, which would update Florida’s child passenger restraint statute.
Motor vehicle accidents claim the lives of more Florida children over the age of 4 than any other cause and are a leading cause of injury, hospitalization and disability of children of all age groups. Many of the injuries are preventable if children are appropriately restrained, but many caring parents do not know about the latest research and recommendations and look to state law for guidance (Pediatrics, 2002).
Unfortunately, Florida law does not meet the recommendations of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration or the American Academy of Pediatrics. Florida law only requires children through age 3 to have age appropriate restraints.
Research has shown that children age 4 through 7 using booster seats have significantly better outcomes than children in adult seat belts.
*Children in booster seats are 59% less likely to be injured than children using seatbelts alone (Journal of the American Medical Association, 2003).
*Children in seatbelts alone are:
4 to 5 times more likely to sustain head injuries (Pediatrics, 2002)
3 times more likely to sustain abdominal injuries (Annals of Surgery, 2004)
28% more likely to die (The Archives of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine, 2006).
I urge you to support (House Bill 443, Senate Bill 956).
Thank you.
