FF Radian RXT or a Booster like Britax Pioneer or Recaro

Hello -

My 4 year old DS (43 lbs) is now FF in a Diono Radian RXT. After seeing some of the new boosters such as the Britax Pioneer and the Recaro Sport, would it be worth upgrading to a booster like those for enhanced side impact protection?

The Diono did great while ERFing, but now that we've turned him around, the shallow depth of the seat has me a bit concerned.

We were considering purchasing another seat for a family member anyways, and if we upgrade would just use the Radian as the alternate seat.

Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

There are no standards for side impact protection. We don't know if deeper sides or headwings help although it seems to make sense that they would. The best side impact protection is extended rear facing which it sounds like you did. If you are buying a new seat I would look at one of the harness to booster seats you mentioned because they will last longer forward facing than a radian.

Buying a combination harness-to-booster seat now and passing on the Radian is probably the most cost-effective choice and will allow you to harness longer, if that's something you are interested in.
