Day 1 of booster training

Do any boosters have arm rests that flip up out of the way while you buckle, or have no arm rests like the old parkway? When was the last time the old parkways were manufactured?

I have to keep my promise to Hannah, but I am so not ready to do this full time starting next July!

I just looked and my Parkway was manufactured 01/08/07, so it doesn't expire until January of 2013. It's slightly easier to buckle than the Turbo we also have but both are a PITB in our Subaru that has floppy belt stalks.

As for the promise you made, that's something I wouldn't ever promise my kids. It's impossible to know that far in advance if a child will be ready for a booster full time. DS is turning 6 in a few weeks and is riding in boosters right now, but I still put the Nautis back in the cars from time to time. He's starting to go on playdates and carpool to things like soccer, so it's important to me that he rides well in a booster, but I won't hesitate to use the Nautilus if I think he needs it again.

I think she'd do fine in a booster full time already, I just don't want to switch her yet.

Like I said before, the novelty will wear off. DD was in hers pretty much full time right away, and now she'll be harnessed for at least 6 months or so.

I did find that the Turbo fits very well beside a FF MA, and sort of slides underneath the curve of the shell, but didn't try it next to a RF MA.

The SG will be MUCH harder to buckle. The armrests are very low. It also provided a bad belt fit on Charlie (though Sam fit perfectly) which of course means nothing for Hannah, but thought I'd throw it out there. I ruled it out based on (obviously) poor fit but also how difficult it was to buckle.

Thanks! Yeah, I'm thinking it will be out just because of the arm rests, I think I'll definitely need flip up or no arm rests if we're going to use a booster more than just occasionally in this car.

How is the Compass B540 if anyone knows? Thats a potential prize in the Learning Curve contest so I'm just wondering if that would probably work well enough for me to take the time to enter everyday?

I don't really know for sure, but the compass boosters were really wide. I assume the new one is just as wide. It looks neat, though.

(I'm going to try to enter that LC contest every day too.)

I'd prefer it closer to his neck, rather than so close to the edge of the shoulder, I'd probably move it up a notch, personally :twocents:

This was exactly my thought, I'd definitely move it up a notch :)

Thanks guys. I'll move it up in the morning before he leaves for school and see how that works out.

I FINALLY was able to move his harness up and crotch strap out to the middle position in his frontier this weekend.

Is it legal for her to ride in a booster in Utah? In Oregon you must be 40lbs to use a booster.

Yes.
Q. When can a child be put in a booster seat?
A. It is legal to switch to a booster seat at any weight
as long as the child is within the booster’s weight
and height range. But, it is not generally
recommended to use booster seats until after the
child outgrows the harness system found on
conventional child restraints, which usually occurs at
40 pounds.
