Convertible Seat for baby with developmental delays

My son is 9m old and 31” long (he’s huge lol) and 19lbs. He’s too big for his infant seat because his head reaches the top.

We’ve got a convertible car seat (Graco Trio Grow LX). He does have developmental delays & doesn’t have the best muscle tone (technically considered hypotonia.) We have it reclined all the way back but his head falls forward the entire time, not just when he’s sleeping, he can’t keep it up Even though it’s fully reclined, because he’s so tall, he’s somewhat up right.

Is there any car seat that would help keep his head back better?

I spoke to one CPST and She recommended the a different seat, either one with more recline, an L-shaped interior (the Triogrow has a C shaped interior).

Advice?

I’ve tried with inserts, without inserts, adjusting the shoulder straps, it’s fully reclined.

Also of note we have a truck so we have to keep in mind how big the seat is.

Hi Mariah. You got some sound advice from that CPST. Any carseat with a C-shape (meaning, any Graco) will be difficult for your son to have proper positioning. Also, carseats with no re-thread harnesses will tend to push his head forward because the attached headwings naturally provide a bump-out. Evenflo carseats tend to be more L-shaped, more specifically the Sonus 65. The problem is that those seats have a line level, so they take up a lot of front-to-back space. Britax ClickTight convertibles—Marathon and Boulevard—might work, but you'd want to try those out first to see how he does.
