Convertible seat for 05 Honda civic

I feel like I've been going round in circles trying to find a seat for my one year old. He is 28" & 18#. I originally was looking at the recaro proride, but saw in reviews that it may be much too big for my car ( and my little guy). I plan on keeping the seat I buy for the entire lifespan of the seat (seems like most are 6 years) and I highly doubt my little guy will exceed the average height/weight for a 7 year old (44" and 50#). I would like him to rear face as long as possible... I'm sure it will become a social issue for him long before a height/weight issue. Now I am looking at the maxi-cosi pria or a britax model...I know the safest seat will be the seat that best fits my car and son so I am looking to you for advice on a seat for a small car and kid:)

I would skip the ProRide for all the reasons you found, so you're on the right track there.

With a small kiddo you can do pretty much whatever you want - around here the general favorites are the Graco MyRide, Evenflo Momentum, Safety 1st Complete Air, Maxi Cosi Pria, First Years True Fit, Britax Marathon, Diono Radian.

My personal favorites are probably the True Fit and the Radian, just because I prefer a seat with lower profile sides and more leg room, but they're all great seats with their own pros and cons. Are there any features in particular you're looking for? You can see more detailed reviews of most of the seats I mentioned on the blog here: http://carseatblog.com/carseatblogcoms-recommended-car-seats/

Do you have a Buy Buy Baby in your area? They have a great selection of seats in store, so you can go in and play with all of those a little and see which you like best and then try them in your car as well to help narrow things down a bit.

I personally was looking at the Maxi Cosi Pria, but decided not to go with it as it is a Dorel seat and they are very particular with the angle in which you install the seat in.

We ended up going with the Peg Perego Convertible. I seriously spent more time adjusting the seat to fit my 9 month old daughter than it took me to install the thing. I recently tested it out by putting my 3 year old son in there, who weighs 35lbs and is 38" tall in it. He still can ride it in RF, as he still has room in the seat and meets the requirements to use it RF. I like how I can move it easily if needed.

The only downfall is that this seat has no rebound control and the owners manual was hard to follow because of a few mis-prints.

Overall the seat to me is well made and worth the money spent. The fabric is nice, defintely does not feel cheap. My daughter doesn't sweat a whole lot in it...

So with a 2-door 2005 Honda Civic, the True Fit and Radians (RXT or R120) are my best bets? My husband is about 6 feet tall and loves his commuter car, the 2-door Civic but hates picking our DD (10 mos) out of the back while sitting in her graco snugride 35 so I'm trying to look for a convertible that will most likely ease the pain :)
