Chicco nextfit tether frayed?

Our 2013 Chicco nextfit tether strap has started to fray where the strap meets the edge of the seat back in our 2012 explorer. It was installed by a reputable Car seat technician. I have discontinued using the seat and contacted Chicco for a replacement tether strap, but the phome rep said it could not be replaced. I submitted photos and explanation online and am waiting for a response, however the rep on the phone made it seem like nothing could be done to remedy the situation. Has anyone had/heard of a similar experience?

Hopefully they say it's 'fuzzed' and not actually 'frayed'?
I've not read about any frayed tether straps in all my years, unfortunately this is a first for me :/. Usually it's adjuster straps that get worn out in the metal harness loosening mechanism, after thousands of pulls slightly sideways, and they are often replaceable, unlike the sleek hidden top tether of the NF.
Fingers crossed they offer you a replacement or a steep discount on a new one, if it's after the warranty period.
