Check this install please-Radian plus one seat 2009 Odyssey

Hi all, I know it is hard to tell from pictures but my OH & installed this seat last night (then again this morning) and we found it rather easy so I'm very concerned we did something wrong :p

I've just read so much about this install being a nightmare I think I built it up in my head to be a huge deal.

R120 installed RF on 2009 odyssey plus one seat with angle adjuster. Very slight < .25" movement side to side at belt path. the angle adjust seems to be able to slide but my understanding is that is not an issue? Does it look over reclined?

Also we RF tethered to the rod in the floor directly below the seat to which the seats attach. We assumed this was acceptable because if that rod fails the seats would not be attached to the car, can someone comment on this as well please?

I added a link to a photobucket album, password to view the album is carseats.

I welcome all feedback. Please let me know if the photobucket link does not work.

The angle definitely looks 40 degrees or more. Even with the angle adjuster. If it does not bother your child though, it would be ok. Just watch for it if it starts to over recline.

Is your tether attached to the same seat that your carseat is installed on? I am not sure on that part, so will wait from another tech to answer this.

Here is talk about installing in an oddyssy: http://www.car-seat.org/showthread.php?t=222482

Does the boot interfere with the seats hinges as mentioned above?

Hi, thanks so much for responding. The boot does not interfere with the hinges, the seat back can be raised and lowered without moving the boot. My son is 8.5 months, haven't tried him in it yet but I don't think he will mind since he's used to the SR35. I will take a pic with him in it to see if the angle changes. I Will probably switch him outboard as he gets older (just love having the captains chair empty for loading him and so i can sit there if i want when OH drives)

the tether is not attached to the seat but to the bar that the captains chair would hook onto if the plus one is removed and the OB seat is slid over. I will look at the link you provided again. I did read it previously and i believe it recommended tethering to the leg of the console tray but I couldn't see why using this bar would be an issue so thought I'd ask.

It does but after reading threads on the subject here I was under the impression that was one of those things people weren't overly concerned with. As long as the baby is not a newborn, can sit up unassisted & has proper neck control much like installing the CA at less than 45 degrees. What are your thoughts?

The rep has publicly stated (including here, I think) that it can be used before a year, the one year is a conservative estimate that the engineer stated. I'd use it for a newborn if the car in which it was being installed caused it to be reclined to 55-60 degrees (VW Eurovan) and the angle adjuster only took it to 45 degrees.

I'm pretty sure I read it is incompatible in that position without it. I just tried DS3 in it & he seems comfy.

But now I have another question; what are the pros/cons of using the strap covers. They seem awfully squishy and big on my tall baby. I can't help notice that they are not picture in the proper harness placenta pics in the manual.

Second question is there a weight or height limit on the infant/toddler inserts?

Thanks for the harness cover info. I did read the insert info in the manual but I was curious if I missed something about harness slots they can "only" be used with or something. Just the way it sits I'm not used to yet I guess

Does anyone know if the tether position I chose is acceptable? I will most likely switch to the tray leg if it is not, but I'd prefer the spot under the radian that is in my pics just because ds2 often comes out driver's side instead of his side and he will fall over the tether constantly ;-)

I can't see your pics either but I have a R100 installed on mine and checked by a tech, it wasn't hard to install there I didn't think either. Mine isnt' tethered so can't comment on that.

Thanks! I was concerned by the lack of difficulty ;-P

Yeah I was worried too because I needed that seat I read some threads on here about how you could do it and than after I got the van I read one that said it wasnt' safe freaked me out, I'm happy with my install, it doesn't work without the AA though which I didn't quite realize and used it way to reclined a couple times:(

I wonder if they made some minor changes on certain years.

:yeahthatlove:

I've been thinking this exact thing. My OH and I keep wondering if the Canadian '09 Odyssey plus one seat is somehow different than the US version even though they are both made in the US. (I realize the dashes etc are different)
