Question Car seat rear facing 2008 mazda 3

I have a newborn and I need a better fitting car seat for my 2008 mazda 3. Right now the one we have my husband can't drive the car with it in. Something not super expensive I was looking at the Cosco Scenera Next but I don't know how well it will fit. He's almost 12 lbs and I would like to get one that I can just leave in the car because he is getting to heavy to carry around.

Hi there!

What seat do you have now (that'll give us an idea of what's a snug fit), is it in the middle or on the side, and is your Mazda a hatch or a sedan?

The Scenera Next is probably about the same size at this age. It'll be far more compact later. A more compact infant seat would work, but that wouldn't get you a whole lot long term.

Could you put it behind the passenger and you sit behind the driver when your husband drives? And have you tried it without the base?

i have tried without the base and it doesn't even make a difference. i guess i could put it behind the passenger. im really just looking for something to stay in the car at what weight or height do you think there would be something more compact convertible car seat wise.

It's possible the Scenera Next will help now, but at a newborn recline it'll probably be about the same size.

When he's sitting unassisted, then you can make the Scenera Next go as upright and compact as you'd like.

It won't be more than a few months. :)

If I remember right, the onboard air is one of the longest seats out there, so I can definitely see it not fitting.

I drive a Kia Spectra with a similar size back seat and we had lots of luck with a Safety 1st Guide 65 in the center seat starting at like 6 months with both front seats all the way back. It may not be the best fit for you with yours so little. The lowest harness settings are a little high. I think that a NEXT would be a good call as well.

There are a few higher end seats that folks have had luck fitting into tiny back seats as well. I would recommend checking out this article and you can get an idea depending on budget: http://carseatblog.com/22818/the-ul...ertible-space-comparison-review-size-matters/

As it sounds like you already know, I would stick to the center position and seatbelt install if you can get a good fit. Will give you a tiny bit more space.

We have a Britax Roundabout rearfacing in your sitters Mazada 3. In the middle it doesn't interfere with the front seats because it sits up high on its base and goes between the seats.
