Britax convertibles height

Are the Britax Marathon's still outgrown pretty early forward facing? or is that just the older models? I am not talking about the CTs.

My friend is trying to decide whether to pass down the Marathons to the baby and get her 3 year old a new seat that will last longer or to get a new set of Marathons for the baby.

Her 3 year old is 40 pounds and I am not sure how tall, but she said he is the tallest in his preschool class and one of the youngest.

The G4s are the same shortish height the Britaxes have been since 2010. 1" of shell, not headrest, above the head.
