Dakota is 18.25" the widest point. Hip room~ 12.5" .

Which Cosco? I'm guessing the Prospect since the competitor is the Dakota.

Prospect is 21" at the widest point. Hip room~ wide enough for my size 10 rear.

We are looking to use them as lbb and currently have the cosco but was looking at getting the combi because someone said they really liked it. I don't think it will fit in the spot. My daughter was very happy about the headrest thing because now she doesn't have to use a booster in our backseat because she is too tall. Thanks for all your help.

I know - but you were still right, technically, and it's an important thing to remember for others who may be reading the thread but not posting. :)

Yeah I understand that there needs to be support up to the tops of the childs ears when using a lbb. Is that correct? Is it safer to be in no booster than one that doesn't provide headsupport? Thats what i've assumed from the training.

I think some of it will have to do with how the belt fits.

also, ideally, we'd see a highback booster in place.

like the extremely tall Sunshine Kids' Monterey.

It depends. I don't think there's a single correct answer for that. Not having adequate head restraint puts the child at risk of neck/back injury, but some of those will be fairly minor injuries (whiplash) when compared to the risk of abdominal injury caused by a poorly-fitting lap belt that rides up.

A lot will also depend on the specific vehicle and whether the child passes the 5-Step test in that seating position.
