Booster seats

We have triplets who are about to reach 40 lb., which means they can't continue to use the 5 pt. harness in their current car seats. We only have shoulder belts on the outer 2 seats in the back of our truck. Is there a booster seat that will accomdate a child over 40 lbs. in the center seat, a booster seat that uses only a lap belt, or is there another solution???

How old are they?

One option is the Nania Airway. It's a harnessed seat to 50 lbs., then converts to a booster seat.

The Britax Marathon and Husky are also alternatives. The Marathon is harnessed to 65 lbs. and the Husky to 80 lbs. The Husky must be tethered once the child reaches 50 lbs., though, and is a very large seat, so you may not be able to get 3 seats across.

You can find out more about these seats here: http://www.carseatsite.com/recommended_car_seats.htm . Look under the "Niche Seats" section.

I think I would probably go with the Airway until you can get a new vehicle. Lap-only belts simply aren't safe for anyone, so at some point, one of your children will be out of a seat and sitting in a lap-only belt. The Airway is an inexpensive seat and it provides nice height for head protection (just guessing that there isn't a head rest in the center position).

If you click the compatibility link up on the upper right hand side of this page, you may find some seats that other people were able to get a good fit with in that car. :)
