Apex65 instal questions

My mom came over to pick up DD for the weekend, and had the Apex 65 already installed by someone at work. It seemed to be a good install and was nice and tight. Unfortunatley, we had to undo it, because the harness straps were too low. When we reinstalled it, we had issues getting a tight instal. It was in a 2007 Acura MDX (with leather seats). It was on the passenger side with locking seat belts. We finally got it installed good enough (less than an inch movement), but it could have been tighter. Also, it seemed like if we moved it too much (at the belt path), that it would come loose, even though the seat belt was locked. Are there any tips/tricks that I should know about?

Do the seats in the MDX recline? If so, recline it a couple notches, install as before and then bring the seatback up so it's nice and tight.

Does it have locking latchplates or a switchable retractor? If it's locking latchplates, it could just be that you need to flip the male end of the buckle once before clicking it into place. That will hold the belt. For most seats, I find it easiest to thread the belt through the belt path, buckle it, and then pull on the lap part of the belt to get it snug before pulling the shoulder portion and feeding it into the retractor. Otherwise for some reason there can be slack in the lap part which means a loose install.
