If I had one, I would use it within its limits RF'ing. I wouldn't go out and buy one new though, there are less expensive seats that will last longer.

I did a check for a family that dutifully RFed to 24 months but hated the Eddie Bauer version of the AOE so much that they turned their small 2 yo FF despite my recommendations. I think if this family had another seat they would have RFed longer.

I love mine. My son will be 4 in 7 weeks, and is just now at the 1 inch limit. I'm sad. It fits perfectly in my vehicles. I like the no rethread harness, as sometimes i shlepp other kids in my car. Its an awful, horrible, deadly booster, and its a lower limit, average Ff seat, but it's actually a pretty good RFing seat. 35 lb limit and decent height.
but, as has been said, unless you already have one, or can get a great deal on one (which is why i got mine to begin with), chances are for the same money you can get a better seat.

If they put immi buckles on it I would like it alot more. I absolutely hate their buckles, especially the chest clip but it does have a decent shell height for older kids and nice infant inserts.

I know the AOE is not very popular as a FFing seat but what about as a RFing second seat?

I just bought my oldest son a Britax Frontier because he's over the weight limit for his AOE harness, but at only three he's not old enough to be in a booster. So now I have two AOEs that are only a year or two old that I'm contemplating using for my youngest as a RFing seat once he's out of his bucket (he's only 5 months). Just not sure because of the bad rep it has on here if I should use them as his primary and secondary, just as the secondary or not at all.

I would use them RF (I had one for DD2). Be aware that Dorel states that all seats MUST be used at 45* RF though which is a no-go for some older RF kids that want to be more upright...

They are great "out of the bucket" seats. Save your money, and use them. Depending on how large your child is, you may or may not have to buy another convertible.

And the rep isnt that the seat itself performs badly. Its a safe seat that passes all the testing. The main issue we have with it is that for what it is, its overpriced, it is marketed poorly (only seat you'll ever need!! hah! No. ) and the booster is godawful deadly. But, for a child who is the appropriate age and size to use it RFing or FFing harness, it's a nice comfy little seat. No reason at all not to use it.
