The Beco thread reminded me of an issue DH and I had with my Ergo. At this point, it's just curiosity, since DS is not really portable anymore at 50+lbs.
Anyway, I could never situate DS on DH's back in the Ergo. DH is very long-torsoed, so if I put the hip straps on DH's hips, DS would be sitting half-way down DH's back - unable to see anything (I'm very short-waisted, so on me, DS could easily see over my shoulder.) On DH, DS also always looked like he was going to fall out - he just sort of hung there - his bum higher than his knees. On me, he'd pull his knees up and looked more like he was sitting (and looked more comfortable for it.)
The only thing I could figure for DH was to put the hip strap really high - like around his ribcage. DH, obviously, didn't find that comfortable, and that probably wasn't an appropriate solution. In the end, I was the only one who really carried DS (in any carrier.)
So, was there a solution to our problem?
