3rd row of a Yukon?

I've got a parent who needs help because her son is able to kick the 2nd row seat in front of him and loosen the install of his complete air in the 3rd row of a Yukon. Apparently the buckles are pretty forward of the bight? She lives an hour or so away so I wanted to have all the tips and tricks ready to go before I meet with her. Any techs with experience?

Is this the Yukon XL? I am not familiar with the regular Yukon (same as the Tahoe) but I have a 2000 Suburban, which is similar to the Yukon XL. And yes, it has forward of the bight seat belts in the 3rd row, which are really annoying.

I can get my CA65LX installed securely in the center 3rd row position by reclining it (it has two allowable angles for forward facing) and pulling it away from the seat bight a couple of inches. When I install, I get in the seat and push down with all my weight to tighten. Not back-and-down like I would if the belts were coming from the seat bight. You want to maintain a gap between the back/bottom of the car seat and the seat bight, so the belt path stays lined up with the seat belt. It takes a little (or a lot) more force to get it tight this way, but once it's in it's solid and I don't think her son will be able to loosen it.

This trick works with most seats that have a recline mode, but I don't know how well it will work on a CA if it's not the LX with the reclining base.

Sorry, yes Yukon XL. 2012/2013 CA and she is installing as you've described but she hasn't told me about recline setting. Apparently Dorel wants the seat in full contact with the seat back so I don't know if pulling it away is interfering. It's a 2002 if that changes things. Thanks for your experience!

Yeah, I would probably want to contact Dorel about the "full contact" thing. Because if she tries to install it with full contact, it's not going to stay tight. In fact, I'd be surprised to find a car seat that would work in that position with full contact. Maybe a FR90. Maybe.

2002 is the same back seat as my 2000, except that the top tether anchor is in the center (which is a good thing).

Only the LX / SE models have two recline settings for forward facing. The regular models only have a RF recline and a FF upright setting.

The other option I guess would be a Ride Safer Travel Vest (version 2, with a tether). Only until the child is too tall for the seat back, however, since there's no head rest there.
