Japanese VS USA Car seats

I'm currently debating if i want to try and deal with having a US seat shipped to the military base we live at or if i should just buy a Japanese seat out in town. The Japanese seats i'm looking into are all made by Takata this link has some pictures but the text is mostly in Japanese http://www.takata.co.jp/childseat/catalogue/pdf/catalogue2009.pdf, and the only US seat i'm really looking at right now is the Coccoro because i don't think anything else will really fit in our vehicle, the back seat is tiny and they sit straight up there is no recline to them at all, which made installing our infant bucket a challenge, so i'm very worried about getting a good fit on whatever we purchase. I wish i had the luxury of going to a babies r us and trying out different seats but i don't.

I'm hoping you guys can give me your :twocents: on these seats

What kind of car do you have? We have a lot of Japanese-market imports here in Canada now via the RIV program, so it might be something I've actually seen.

Correct me if I'm wrong--isn't that just the RHD version of the Sidekick?

i just had to go google pictures of the sidekick cuz i had never heard of it, it looks basically the same, ours doesn't have a mesh rear roof though most of the pictures that came up looked like they did.

The Marathon fits in the Sidekick rear-facing, guaranteed. I've put a SnugRide into a Sidekick and the passenger ate their knees, but a convertible will give you a lot more space as compared to an infant seat--they sit more upright.

How old is your child? Weight? Approximate height?

shes not due till dec 5th but it takes between 4-6 months to get a seat shipped over here to our store on base if not longer, so i already have an infant seat that fits alright that we bought before we moved here, but i need to purchase her next seat far in advance if i'm ordering it. It doesn't have to last us forever, preferably atleast as long as we are here which will be 3 years and be FAA certified for when we fly home.

I'm not a fan of her infant seat because to release it from the base i have to basically get my fingers pinched between her car seat and the seat in the car because it has no recline

You could use it without the base.

Since I know the Marathon works, it would be a safe bet for you. You may also want to post in one of the more US-dominated forums asking if anyone has or has had a Sidekick, for compatibility.

The Takata seats are really pretty, and look very nice (the 6.0 has built-in lockoffs), but it looks like they only rearface to 9-10kg (20-22lbs), and forward face to 18kg (~40lbs), so I would definitely get something from the US... sounds like you're getting well covered for information there. :)

I had been looking at the marathon before but was worried there would be no leg room for the person up front, but there was thats a + and i'd probably end up just getting a marathon
