light convertible seat for 2nd car and travel?

I am going to need a 2nd convertible seat for my 9 month old son. I already have a TrueFit which I chose primarily because of the high weight limits, figuring I could get a lot of use out of this seat. So this would be nice for the 2nd seat also. But I would like to get something that can easily be transferred to grandma's car as well as light enough to travel with on a plane, etc. Cost isn't a huge factor, though it would be nice to spend less than $150. Any recommendations? Thanks for the help!

I'd look at the Cosco Scenera and the Safety 1st Avenue. Both under $100, both rear face to 35 pounds with tall shells, forward to 40. The Scenera is a barebones seat, but nine pounds and narrow, so great for a spare/travel seat. Top slots are at 15". The Avenue has 16" top slots, and has padding in the cover and foam underneath, but is generally the Scenera's big cousin.

Neither has lockoffs. I haven't installed an Avenue yet, but I hear it's pretty darn similar to the Scenera, and I don't consider the Scenera difficult by any stretch of the imagination. For a newborn it would require some work to get the correct angle, and even for an older rear facer sometimes you need a noodle to get the angle less than upright, but overall the Scenera is a pretty easy seat I find. I imagine the Avenue is very similar.

Thanks- that is helpful. Seems the Avenue is not available for purchase in too many places?
