i just don't understand why people want them out of carseats do fast? i posted the new ERF video on my Facebook and DH's coworker commented, first he was like i rode in the middle seat of my parents car.. a bunch of sissys now a days... then i posted back about car accident deaths...
then he was like "Jeezz, I'm looking to get the twins out of seats altogether as soon as possible."
THEY ARE 2!! and tiny!!! his 6 year old is out of a booster already... i posted a bunch more info and ended it with beside all that its ILLEGAL IN MD, the law says 8 years AND 65lbs or 4 ft 9" and that's not always even best practice!

thanks for letting me vent, my dh is like who cares, its not our kids..... blah!

I don't get it either. I have a friend who when I brought up carseats to, replied "Oh, I already got him out of it". He is 4 and often rides unrestrained and on the rare occassion that he uses the backless booster she has, he puts the shoulderbelt behind him.

Well, carseats are a PITA. Simply put.

Ever wanted/needed to go somewhere in someone elses car with the kids? Switching seats is a PITA, if they even all fit.

Needing to know so much about them to use the seat correctly is too much work for these lazy SOB's who just don't get that windshields are not going to keep their kid in the car upon impact.

And then there is the "Oh, I survived 40 years without wearing a belt, my kid can too!" kind of parents.

WE simply know better and choose not to neglect our childrens safety.

Same here ... we'll probably have about 18 years of car seat usage under our belts before DD2 is out of a booster for good! I've never complained about it.

I don't get it either.. definitely a lot of "we didn't have seats, and we did fine" crap. My bf, who's a nurse so ya think she might be a little more into safety and what not, moved her dd from a SR straight to a Chase. :( She was in the SR past 1 yr (too tall, but hey still under the weight limit so it's okay) And she can't wait until she can use just a backless booster.

Oh, and off topic.. how's the fabric on blue aurora?

its really soft! lol its very velvety on the blue part ( but not the same as the marathons velvityness i like the marathons more) and the gray is smooth and sportsy... ( lots of new words! lol) i have to say i prefer the gray to the blue for touch! i don't know if my vent isn't blowing on the side she is sitting on now in the van or if its really hot out but she coming out of the car drenched in sweat ( why did i almost type smoke... instead of sweat?) or maybe its the fabric....

I do. This may be sacrilege here, but I hate doing checks on cars with Britaxes and bald tires and squealing brakes. Those kids would be far safer in Sceneras -- or in some cases even, gasp, boosters -- in well-maintained cars.

Carseats are very important, but they are a LAST line of defense. Far better to do everything possible to avoid the crash in the first place: drive defensively, don't talk or text, keep brakes and tires in good repair.

Okay, since this has been hijacked;) I have a question about tire pressure. I know it needs to be checked cold. Here is the issue. Our van has a reading thingie that tells us the pressure (I know it still needs to be checked manually, DH needs to do that soon). It is fine until about an hour into a trip, and then it tells us to check the pressure. We also cannot find what the tire pressure should be (I need to peruse all the manuals that came with the van:whistle:). Could it be from the tires being hot? And if that the case, should we lower the pressure in the tires a bit? Should I move this question to the car safety section?

Thanks!

Jennifer ~ I believe that all vehicles have that info on the white sticker on the door frame of the car door. :)

Also, we had a clunker filled with Britax seats, but $400 worth of Britax seats wasn't going to get us a much better car than a Ford Escort wagon with a billion miles. That's $6.67 a month that we could have had extra for maintenence. Not enough for a better car.

Of course, I would never buy a Britax if my car needed new tires that month. But, I'd get rid of that Scenera next month and replace it with a nice seat.

Yea, that's what it says, but I couldn't find it there:eek: I am going to check again though. Since the van is a conversion, I also am not sure what info to follow. We were given the manual for the basic chassis. Wonder if there is something from the tire manufacturer in there?

sorry if i hijacked the thread. my point is that it's all too common to question (usually with a tinge of disdain or incredulity) why people don't exercise best practice when it comes to carseats, like most people do here, when in reality i think *all* people--car-seat.org fanatics as well--can be guilty of other safety errors that some others outside of the car-seat.org community may think are totally obvious. since carseats are only a small part of CPS, i see the larger picture is often ignored.

as for tires and tire pressure-- the tires are among the most important safety feature of the car. improperly chosen and improperly maintained tires can be the *direct* cause of fatalities, as evidenced by the ford/firestone fiasco that embrioled as a result of people being killed by blowouts in ford explorers. i've been fairly fanatical about tires and other aspects of cars and safety in general, but i accept that the general population is not. i myself am far less fanatical about carseats than some here. i also accept that the general population is not fanatical about carseats, and i fail to see why this fact is constantly questioned in threads on this board.

again, sorry for the hijack.
