How much time left??

I have been seeing photos lately of kiddo's in SS1's and am wondering how much time we have left in it. Does he have maybe a couple of months, weeks or is he done and I need to order a new one now?? This is his seat in my husbands truck, he's only in it about once a week. He is in a MA in my car. So, if he is too big for it, we have another one. Thank you!

That's pretty darn close. How close is his head to the top of the actual shell? If the cover compresses at all, I'd say he's done already.

Press down all the padding so that you can feel the hard shell above his head. He needs an inch of hard shell MINIMUM. If the shell comes up to the top of the cover, then he's alright, but I agree with Shaunum, I think he's probably right at the edge of outgrowing the seat.

Personally at this point, I would move him into the next seat, as I would not want to have to check everytime we were in the vehicle, and you are close enough to that point now.:twocents:

I'd personally call that done. :twocents: It can be hard to judge by a photo, but if the photos give an accurate picture of how he fits, I'd say that it's time to go shopping.

Thank you! I knew he was pretty much done with it and have already decided on a True Fit (with the help of this board!!), just wanted to get it confirmed. My husband thinks I am car seat crazed (I have switched out all of my car seats since I have found this site), so now I have confirmation!! Thanks again!

Another quick question...sorry! Since my plan is to order a True Fit (casino), do you think it will fit where the SS1 is now?? I am not sure if you can tell from the picture, but the handle on the SS1 in all the way back and it barely touches the drives seat. Also, my husband is 6 foot and has the seat quite a ways back, but would want it to stay there (since this is his truck, after all). It is a Dodge Ram Megacab. We currently have 3 across and need it to stay this way. Apex 65, Evenflo Big Kid Confidence Booster and hopefully TF. I added a new picture so you could see from front to back. BTW I have no where near me that carries this seat so I could see it in real life and try it out. Thank you!!

Is that an approved handle position for the SS1? I'm not too familiar with infant seats, sorry.

The TF should fit front-to-back just fine; since your baby is older you don't have to worry about getting it reclined to a 45-degree angle, which should leave plenty of room for your dh in front. As far as width, I'm not sure - it's a pretty wide convertible. But then again that truck has a ton of room width-wise, so I think you've got pretty good odds.

Also, I really don't think this is a problem but I have to mention it just in case (and for anyone lurking.) Your son in the middle, in the booster, has a lap/shoulder seat belt, right? Not just a lap-belt? It looks like the truck is new enough to have a lap/shoulder belt in that position, but I don't see it in the pic so I wanted to double-check.
