Evenflo Portabout & Consumer Reports

I had purchased the Portabout for my soon to be born first baby and thought I was done with this decision! Then Consumer Reports comes out saying there was structural damage to the seat in crash tests but restrained ok in the dummy test.

I am so confused! Should I return this model and buy the Graco Snugride instead?

I originally liked the fact that the Portabout can hold a slightly bigger infant since I bought the universal stroller & big babies run in my family!

Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi-

Unfortunately, CR tells us very little about their testing or ratings methodology. So, it is impossible to tell if this damage is repeatable or a fluke.

From a safety standpoint, the Portabout is probably just fine. On the other hand, only you can decide if the peace-of-mind issue is important enough to try another model.
