Question CRST?

What you do after your course is largely dependent on what you want to do and what type of organization exists in your community. It can range anywhere from just checking friend's and family member's seats and raising awareness in the people around you about proper use, to being actively involved in a coalition and volunteering regularly at seat check events. (If there are events in your area.) One member on this board has organized her own non-profit organization and has used it to get funding to do seat checks and provide seats to people who are unable to pay for their own.

So that gives you an idea of the broad range of what you can do. Depending on what area of the country you're in the existing supports will vary a great deal - some areas of ON have seat check events almost weekly. Some areas don't have seat check events at all or they're very rare - and some areas are in the process of phasing public funded seat check events out.

So I guess the sky is the limit in most regards. ;) The only thing you can't do is train other people to be a CRST and unless you have special training and are in an OT occupation you won't handle special needs restraints either.

To keep certified you'll need to check 10 seats annually for each certification year not counting the seats you check at the end of the course.

We use check forms. They can be stored and/or submitted yearly to count towards your renewal. If you're in BC and train with Linda, she doesn't actually keep track of these but does a check sign-off (similar to the US one) before your renewal is complete.
