Does the Comfort Sport make sense for me?

OK... I posted last week about needing a back up seat for my MIL vehicle. We are only in her vehicle a few times per year so I was looking for very occasional use. Well this week our very good friends bought a twelve passenger van so they now have room to take their whole family and our whole family at the same time. They live about 10 steps away from us and we spend a lot of time together, so we now need to have back up seats.

Currently the boys are both rearfacing in my Moms car. Tobias is 2.5, 29lbs and Linus is 7 weeks and 11-12lbs. T is in a TrueFit and L is in a Radian.

So today I went to Zellers and bought another TrueFit on sale. The plan is to put the two TF in my Moms vehicle where they will stay (I hate installing the TF, and don't want to have to move it around but I love the seat for everything else). For our "backup" seats, which will be primarily used in our friends van but also occasionally in my MIL vehicle or any other vehicle we are in we will use the Radian for Tobias and then I bought a Comfort Sport for Linus.

I know it's little. I considered buying an infant seat to use but then decided on this instead. It was on sale at Toys R Us for 89 dollars and that makes it cheaper than any infant seat I could get.

Was there a better option? I won't buy a Dorel seat because of their lack of recalling serious issues so the Scenera was not an option. I don't care that I will have to buy another seat for him... I figure that by the time he outgrows it, even if that is when he's 2 we will probably have another baby on the way so it can be passed down, and even if not 45.00 per year of carseat use is really not expensive.

In my mind it seems like the best choice for right now, but I wasn't sure if I was missing something obvious so I thought I'd throw it out there before I through away the packaging for the CS

Is $89 a sale price for it? I'm not too up on converting to US dollars. Doesn't sound like a big sale.

Since you're buying, there's some $100 seat that should be better. Just a few bucks more for a better seat.

My mom bought a CS for her car. She couldn't be bothered to drive to another store looking for a Scenera and didn't want to spend more than the price of the CS. And she was hung up on how padded it was (literally blows away everything on the market). Also cuz it's only used a few times a year. DS is only 17 months now and I think he's outgrown the RF slots. The top slot is FF only, which is retarded b/c there are HUGE gaps btw the harness slots making it outgrown for RF very early.

No Avenue in Canada to my knowledge, though (we're across the border in the Canadian forum ;)) and not sure about the Titan in Canada, either.

Seats in Canada are a whole lot more expensive than in the US. Other than the Scenara, I can't think of another seat under $100. The Evenflo Titan is $130 at Sears. I might be wrong, but I don't think the Avenue is available up here. I've never seen it.

ETA - Just checked, the Titan is only 99.99 at TRU. I'd guess it's a less padded version than the one at Sears. That might be a good option for the OP.

I think the comfort sport is a fine option in these circumstances. It's not a bad seat, it just tends to be outgrown earlier than most and is typically just as expensive as some longer lasting seats. You're already aware that you'll have to buy another harnessed seat, so in my mind, I don't think it's a huge deal. It's not really going to last you longer than a Titan - though it might be a little harder to install than the Titan depending on the vehicle, but they'll probably both last a similar amount of time. It has EPS foam which for the $10 more than the Scenera makes it worth it to me.

For a back up seat that will see occasional use with L and then a future child I don't see any reason to return it if you're happy with it. And as a bonus they have a 2009 DOM IIRC, so you'll get a full 6yrs of use out of it.

Yes, the Titan is here. :) It has the same 30lb rf'ing and 47lb ff'ing limit as the EFTA here.

The Titan is also at Walmart now, though I can't remember the price.

$99.99

The Scenera is $80 here when Walmart has it on rollback if that helps put things in perspective... The Titan is available for $100 right now, but we really don't have a whole lot of options for convertible seats in the $100 range. The Comfort Sport is a special purchase right now at TRU/BRU, regular price at other stores is $149.
