Which is safer ??

Ok I have been wondering which is safer... For my infant to be behind the drivers seat or the passanger? I have my 2yr old RF in her MA behind the passanger seat and my 3 month old RF in her SS1 behind the driver. Does it really matter which side they are on? My SUV has captian chairs, so they both have to be near the door. Alot of people ask me why don't you switch them cause you will need to get to the baby more. Really my 2yr old wants more and I can see her easier. Should I leave them where they are or switch them.. TIA

Most techs will tell you that each side is equally safe. Statistically it changes from year to year depending on the number of side impact collisions, where you live, what side most people were hit. Having said that, if you live in an area which has you turning left on a lot of solid greens (as in, no turning arrow/advanced green), the driver's side may be slightly safer. And with that in mind I guess I'd opt to have the Marathon on the passenger side and the SS1 on the driver's side.

Personally, I prefer to have my infant carrier on the driver's side. That way when I get out, I take get the infant carrier, walk to the passenger side, set baby down (she's safe and secure, can't go anywhere), and then get my toddler unbuckled. The opposite has you getting your toddler out first, walking to the passenger side, letting go of your toddler while you release the carrier from the base.

OK good, this is what I was thinking. I sit the baby down near the tire, load my DD1 and then go around and load the baby. Thanks for your help... My older sister is going to do the opposite, her DD1 behind the driver and new baby behind passanger. The other reason I ask is people say that the passenger side is next to the curb so it is safer. Well like you said I can grab the baby and then have the 2yr old get out on the curb side. Thanks again.

I would leave them too. You will be more distracted if you switch them.

We have it set up the opposite in both our truck and car. Not because we WANT it that way, but that is the way it works. With the MA RF in the truck for Joel I can get it behind the drivers seat and DH has enough room to comfortably drive, then I am somewhat comfortable as a passenger with the Snugride behind me.

In my car, the Keyfit is behind the passenger and MA is FF behind the driver. I would like the opposite, but when I tried that way DH couldn't sit to drive very well.

I also have baby on driver's side (behind me) and DS on passenger side. I always found it much easier, especially when DD was in the SS1.

I think the "safety difference" is small enough you do what is convenient for you and your family, and that will vary depending on family/car/seats/etc.

I think you have a very reasonable setup. Really, they are both so safe rear-facing in properly used seats, I'd not worry about it and just do what is convenient, positioning-wise.
