Fraying Harness on Safeguard

I took apart my Safeguard in order to wash the cover, and on one harness strap where it's on the splitter, it has started to fray. Guess I'll be calling customer service tomorrow. And now that my Radian has broken foam, I'm out a seat until I can get one of these fixed.

Bah!

The good news is, I think the Safeguard has a guarantee? So they shouldn't even charge you shipping on the replacement part.

How did the foam break on your Radian? If it's not missing huge pieces, just broken off, you can tape or glue it back in place and it's perfectly safe to use. The foam doesn't have to be attached to the seat to do its job, just in place. Taping it to the foam next to it will do fine. (Per Sunshine Kids, when my foam broke.)

I would recommend taping the foam instead of using glue. Others have discovered the hard way that glue doesn't agree with the foam.

It's not even so much about the glue agreeing (or not) with the foam, but glue can leave a hard edge or a hard spot compared to the squishy foam around it. In a crash, the foam compresses, but the glue doesn't.

I didn't glue the foam to itself; I glued the foam to the seat. :) The original foam was glued in, so...

I don't know. I took the cover off to wash it, and it was broken in half on the side.

Yes, Safeguard CS is REALLY good. I've dealt with them once before when I had an issue with the tether (the clip part kept springing out backwards? It was really weird). They sent me a whole 'nother seat and I sent the other one back. Not at all like dealing with Britax, which after three phone calls I STILL do not have a replacement cover that was defective upon purchase (I wanted to return the entire seat, but the company I bought it from wouldn't send me a call tag or return my emails or phone calls).

Sorry if I was too vague earlier. I've heard of cases where others have glued the foam back together and the glue melted the foam. I don't recall specifically the type of glue. It may have been super glue. I just think it's an important caveat to be aware.

Okay, I called Safeguard, and they are sending out a call tag. I figured they would want QA/QC to look at it. He said he'd never even heard of this happening (nor have I, actually, not in a new seat like this).

I'm glad Safeguard is so attentive. Makes ya feel all warm and fuzzy. Or at least, confident about the product you're buying.

I've heard of it with Superglue, too. :) I used Gorilla Glue. And I taped it for good measure. ;)
