usa seat in eu

Not really sure what to do, a friend (more like an aquaintence) is from USA but lives in EU and I guess had her baby shower in USA. I asked her what she was doing for a car seat &stroller. she said don't worry they have that taken care of, she got a travel system from usa.
should i tell her that it is technically illegal to use the usa seat (she's not military) or just not worry about it bc US seats are safe, nor is she putting her child in danger?
wwyd?

Depending on where in the EU I might make a big deal of it. If she's in Sweden I would encourage her to buy a Swedish seat. They rear face the longest and have the best mortality rate in the world for motor vehicle crashes. If she's in the UK or Germany, where they routinely rear face only to 9kg, then I would definitely encourage her to use a 35 pound American seat.

I would mention that it's illegal, but if she knows that already then I would leave it be. I would much rather have my child illegally rear facing at 1 year and 20 pounds than have them legal and dead because most of the EU hasn't figured out how to rear face yet.

she only bought a bucket seat that goes with the travel system. I think she'll have the baby in there for a year or 9 months (we're in Germany), because I feel she didn't research it, just bought whatever. I think after that she'll buy the standard issue ffing at 9 mo car seat, so it's not like she bought something she felt was safer. I guess I just have to wait and see what happens at 9 mo.
BTW OT when my sister visitedme last month she asked me why I still had my lo rfing (at the time about to turn 1). I said because you aren't supposed to until they are 1. She said "oh with my first kid they said 6 mo, the other 2 were 9 mo." I then explained to her erfing, although her kids are all too big to rf, but hopefully she'll pass the info on the some other mom.
