Saw a Regent today

I was at the C.A.R.E center today in Lethbridge and this lady walked by me packing a Regent! Are they allowed in Canada as a "prescription" car seat? I wonder why they had one?

Interesting question. I don't think they're allowed as a prescription seat - seats still have to pass CMVSS standards to be allowed even as special needs and so far as I know the Regent doesn't pass CMVSS standards.

I'll be looking to see what Allport says though as that will be the definitive word. :thumbsup:

(Could it have been a parent from the US there for treatment? Or maybe just imported one illegally?)

Is the Traveller Plus approved in Canada? It LOOKS like a Regent.

I believe it is available as a special needs seat, under the name Traveller Plus, and at an exorbitant price. Made by Britax, distributed by Snug Seat.

I'm pretty sure it was a regent (but I have never seen a Traveller plus before) it was a dark blue valour cover. I don't think it would have been a US person as the CARE center is a place for things like Speech TP and what not. I'm sooo wondering why! I should have stopped her LOL

I totally would have stopped her LOL.

In most cases it's just an illegal import situation... the parents having little to no clue about the risks, and being swayed by an awseome online price or something. Or, knowing it's illegal, but thinking the difference in standards is some sort of scam.

Is the CARES centre near any sort of Post Office?? Greyhound even??

(seriously, where is the CARES centre in Lethbridge? I grew up there, but I'm drawing a blank...)

Or, knowing its illegal and thinking its *still* better than other options available in Canada currently (Frontier that only harnesses to 65lbs, d/n have as high top slots and is having "issues").

It might've been a TP, since they can be covered by medical. It is really hard to tell the difference, especially if it's the blue or brown cover.

Nope - the Regent can't be imported but the Traveller Plus can - and they do look very similar. If it was a "prescription" car seat it would have to comply to CMVSS 213.3 Production Restraint or Custom Restraint. It's possible that she told her doctor this is the seat she needed and he wrote a letter in case she got pulled over - but it's still illegal cause it hasn't been tested to the upper weights here in Canada. CMVSS 213.3 allows for testing up to 102 pounds with a double tether - don't know if the Regent has a double tether or not as I'm not overly familar with it. For a weight of 80 pounds I'd want a double tether!!!!

The Regent has a single tether. The Super Elite did have the double tether, so I'm not sure why Britax opted for the single tether on the Husky and Regent...

The very first Super Elites had a double tether, but the instructions said not to use both hooks. It was the same shell as the Traveller Plus and the theory at the time was that they came off the same line.

Once they added a splitter plate to the harness they stopped the dual hooks.

If the blue velour seat you saw with the adjustable headrest, it's the Traveller Plus. If it's without the headrest, it would most likely be the Husky. The earlier Husky had 2 tether hook, just like the Traveller Plus.

it's in the provincial building across from Lethbridge Center 2nd floor.

and it's didn't look like a parent it looked like the staff hauling it out. one girl was carring the seat and the other had the bar that goes in the front (?) there was no head reast on it it was just one big seat
