traveling with 9 month old

I am going to GA in September with my DD. She will be 9 months old at the time and I am clueless about what to do with her car seat. I am planning on holding her, please don't hate me (if she sees me she NEEDS to be held and I know that I would hold her anyways....). Right now she is in a Graco infant seat (the one that goes to 29"). How do I bring the seat with me? And if shes too big for that seat I will need to purchase her a new one because the seat she will move up to is not approved for airline use.:(
Thanks so much:cool:

I'd bring it to the gate and if there's a spare seat you can put it there. Then she can at least be in it for take off, landing, and severe turbulence.

What seat do you have for her that is not FAA approved next??? All convertible seats are, and that's what she needs after her infant seat. Off the top of my head the Regent, the Safeguard Go, and all booster seats are the only ones I can think of that aren't FAA approved. Combination seats can be used on the plane with the harness in.

We went on vacation when my DD was 10 months old and she rode on my lap. She slept the whole time and we rented a carseat. Cause that's what I thought all parents did only thinking it was easier. That was before I knew anything about the rental carseats. This last trip we took she was about 14months old. Again she rode on my lap and did great, she slept most of it and played the rest. I gate checked her Marathon, which I thought would be the easiest to install in any rental vehicle. It was really nice cause it's the last thing on the plane and the first thing off. We did the same for our umbrella stroller. We booked the last trip before I even knew the good and bad about "lap babies". I would have bought her a ticket but flying to Maimi it was a booked flight. I was really nervous cause I didn't know how she would act. The trip at 10months she had a pacifier and at 14months she didn't, but the pressure did not bother her.
