Driving with the SRS light on

The bean should be coming any day now, and both it's seat and DS's seat are installed in DH's 07 civic. Just recently the SRS light came on. The seats are installed with LATCH, but if the side curtain air bags are affected I really don't want kids in there. Well actually, I don't want DH in there if the seat belts and airbags don't work! Anyone know what that little light really means?

every time you start the car, the system goes through a self-diagnostic check and reports back to the computer. when the SRS light comes on, it means it is detecting a malfunction in the system, and usually the system will not deploy in this "fail" mode.

seatbelts will still operate, but i'm not 100% sure the pretensioners will.

i would get this in to the dealer ASAP.

Yes, get it to the dealer right away!

My MIL had the same light come on in her car last summer, and she was insanely busy at the time. She really didn't have the time to hassle with it, but luckily she made the time the next day. Two days later, an 18 yr old (traveling in the opposite direction) lost control of her vehicle while speeding on a wet road, came across three lanes of traffic, jumped the median, and hit my MIL's car on the front of her car near her door. Her airbags DID deploy , her car was totaled, her hand was cut from slamming into the windshield, she broke a kneecap, and was severely bruised (especially the two lines where the seatbelt crossed her body), but she had no serious injuries. If she hadn't taken it in when she did, I'm not sure she would've lived. It's worth taking the time to get it checked out.

Well the manual says that it could be the seat belts or the airbags or anything else to do with the safety system. It isn't very specific. We are going to take it in tomorrow.
