The girls are in need of new seats for their parents vehicles which they are currently in AOEs but J is about to outgrow by height and K by weight and height. I have talked to their parents and suggested what seats to get but they are dead set on getting the seats in the states when they go next week. Nothing I say or give to them to read changes this but now the dad asked what seat to get. Should I actually tell him which one??? If so which would you suggest??? Girls stats are in my siggy. Remember I have tried for the last 3 months to get them to change their minds and nothing has helped. Any suggestions would be great also to try to change their minds.

I'd give them a list of seats. The Nautilus and Marathon (and clones) would be good choices, and the Marathon would pass as a Canadian seat (I have no idea if the Nautilus is traveling north at all). The Evenflo Triumph Advances would work. The Regents, of course. A couple of Radians would be fine as well, you know how they fit them.

I'd give them that list, a list of stores (Babies R Us will have the Britaxes and Triumph Advance, a boutique may have the Radians, Walmart may have the Nautilus (and Triumph Advance). I don't know where in the US they're going to be, so I can't find stores for you.

Well, since they're bent on breaking the law, might as well go big - Regents would be great to keep the girls harnessed longer! If I was going to buy in the states, that's what I'd be buying!! (ok, maybe one of those $25 parkways that everyone keeps talking about might tempt me too....)

ETA - didn't realize the girls were in AO in their parents car, thought they were outgrowing your siggy seats...Marathon might be a good choice then, it would definately blend in better with Can. seats, or the triumph advance too...so really, what Wendy said ;-)

You know, the triumph advance as well as the radian really aren't much cheaper in the US than Canada - the CDN price on the advance is pretty much the same as some of the ones at BRU.

I was going to tell you to steer them away from the regent because there won't be any techs familiar with installing them, but I just remembered you're a tech and would be able to get help from here if you needed it... But still, if they got back to Canada & found it incompatible with their vehicle, not like they could just make a trip back to return them.

I'd probably tell them to get a Nautilus. It'll get them a HWH seat with top slots nearly as high as the regent, and then convert into a good high back booster, then a backless booster. It seems to not have any install problems, so that wouldn't be a concern either. It's supposed to be becoming available in Canada in the future, and I think the seat will look more like a CDN seat than a regent would. You'll have to really reinforce for them the min 40lbs for booster use in Canada though since the seat will be labeled minimum 30lbs for booster use - as will any other combination seat.

Have you given them Transport Canada's consumer info notice on not buying US car seats? Hopefully when they realize most of the seats they're looking at aren't much cheaper than their CDN counterparts they'll decide to just buy a seat in Canada.

I have tried the girls in the Marathon and the EFTA and they have an inch or 2 left in those seats but from what I gather they want to just buy one more seat and that is it. I have tried to get them to buy the Apex here but hasn't worked. They are going to Scottsdale, Arizona, should I suggest the Nautilus, if they can find it? They really arn't up for EH either, might convince them to harness to 4.5 yrs but even that might be pushing it. BTW the seats are going into VW vehicles: a tourag (sp?) suv and a car (not sure exactly what) but the tourag is probably being sold soon and not sure what will be bought but probably another SUV

Well, if they are going to pick up a EFTA or a Radian they are pretty much the same price in the US as here in Canada  Do they know that?

If this is the last seat they ever want to buy including the booster seat then I would tell them to look for the GN . . . I think

Make sure you tell them it is illegal to use US seats in Canada and that you don't recommend it and tell them what you would recommend.

I have told them about it being illegal, and what I do recommend but right now it seems like the only options they will do are:
--use the AOE with harness even though outgrown
--use the AOE as a booster though J is under 40 and they are not even 4 yrs old
--use a US seat and than I might be able to convince them to get a GN

Out of all those options, I like the 3rd one best cause they stay harnessed. Would rather have an illegal seat than a booster.
