Is she safe in the front seat?

I have a newly 13 year old! So, so hard to believe-- she was not quite 3 when I joined this forum back in 2008!

I'm questioning her safety of riding in the front seat. She's 5'0 and weighs 72 lbs. She does not activate the front passenger seat air bag, so if she rides in the front she will not have air bag protection. Belt fits accurately.

Is she safe to ride in the front now that she is 13 or should I keep her in the back? She just seems so, so small to me (she is small!) and this is new territory. I've never had a child ride in my front seat!

Without an airbag I'd keep her in the back in that car.

In other cars, though, she may turn on the airbag just fine, and I'd have no issues there.

From what I've read, my front passenger airbag does not activate until 100 pounds. I'll venture to guess she will not reach that weight prior to being able to get her learner's permit in 2 years. At what point do I allow her to ride in the front seat if she does not reach 100 pounds to activate the airbag?

I'd do it at least a few months before she's driving. I wouldn't want to share the road with a child behind the wheel and in the front for the first time.
