Liability only ins, will they cover a car seat in an accident? (California)

My nephew's girl friend was in an accident today, 3 kids all in seats. They have liability only ins. I think she was at fault, but not sure yet. If she was, will their ins cover the kids' seats?

I am surprised I don't know this, but since all 3 times we were hit it was not our fault and we had full coverage anyway, it is not something I have had to even think about.

I have 2 high back boosters that I will offer them if they want them, esp if their seats won't be replaced by ins. I assume the 4 and 6 year old are both in booster and I sure hope the 2 year old isn't. Just don't want to tell her that ins has to replace if that isn't really the case. All the google info I found was too legal and technical and confusing.

Does it on'y cover when you cause damage on other property or injure someone else? In my country it's only covered by the comprehensive coverage and only when it's destroyed by malicious or if the carseat would be stealing and I don't know about the insurance rules in america

Liability only kicks in when you are at fault and only covers the other person's costs, not yours.

Liability only covers the people you hit. For car seats to be covered when you are at fault, you would have to have collision or possibly comprehensive coverage. She'll need to purchase her own new seats.

If you can find out how big the 2 year old is, we can help find an inexpensive seat for him.

Thanks, that is what I figured. I will for sure give them the Turbobooster SS and the Evenflo high back I have. I have 2 Britax 5 pts that would be perfect for the 2 year old, but they don't take care of things well at all, so even though it makes me feel like a bad person, I am going to hold onto those and try to sell them as planned. I would just hate to see such nice seats get abused they way it would. If they can't afford a seat for her, I might offer to buy the 2 year old a new seat. I have a couple in mind that would be good options for her.

I feel bad for them to be in this situation and will help out where I can, but not to put myself in a position where I would feel resentful. Was really hoping there was some loophole or something in the law where ins would cover in use seats even if at fault and liability only, but didn't think so.

Good news is that she was able to use a local resource for families and they provided her with seats for the two youngest. I am going to give her the boosters I have for the oldest. Now they just need to get squared away on the not having a car part, but breathing a big sigh of relief that the kids will be safe in whatever they end up riding in.
