    2013 Prius vs 2013 Legacy

    Please advise

I'm in the market for a newer vehicle, but I'm torn.

The Prius would save me money on gas, I'd get a discount for parking at work (fuel efficient discount), and it's the color I want (I know, lol).

The Legacy has better safety ratings.

I'm open to suggestions for another vehicle, but I'm firmly in the under 18K category and need low mileage since I do a LOT of driving.

I'd love an SUV since our winters are awful, but can't seem to find under 18K (though for the perfect vehicle, I'd be tempted to go up to 20K), with high safety ratings and good MPG.

Re: 2013 Prius vs 2013 Legacy

By awful winters do you mean snowy? Legacy 1000% in that case--we have family members with both and the Prius does not handle well in the snow at all. You will be glad for the AWD of the Legacy.

If you want a suggestion of another vehicle, you could also look at the Impreza hatchback (2012 or later), which is almost identical in size to the Prius, gives you a hatch if you liked that about the Prius, and has better mileage than the Legacy while still having the AWD and high safety ratings. A recent model year low mileage used one should be in your price range since the new ones are only slightly more than that. The Forester and the Crosstrek are built on the Impreza platform too so more or less the same size but more SUV-ish as crossover vehicles, though they may be harder to find used.

Fusion Hybrid, add snow tires in the winter?

Larger and more expensive than Prius of course, but they depreciate faster so maybe you can find some close to your price range even with low enough miles for the balance of a factory warranty. Found these on a quick search but there were plenty around Cleveland.

In your situation I'd go for the Legacy - the awd in bad winters is worth it plus, plus the resale value is phenomenal. You won't get 50 mpg overall tge fuel economy in the legacy isn't bad either.
