I have a set of tires with less than 30k miles on them. One slipped a belt in June. It happened to another in August. A third has the same batch number, so I do not trust it. The forth is being replaced by default.
The tire manufacturer might give a partial refund on the damaged tires under warranty IF they decide it was a factory problem. They do not evaluate tires that do not have a "dealer diagnosed active issue". Therefore, they won't do any warranty claim for #3 even though it's the same batch number. However, they claim the batch number means nothing; they only do evaluations on a tire-by-tire basis. The fourth tire is a complete non-starter with them.
From a financial standpoint, I'm disappointed these tires didn't last. From a safety standpoint, I'm appalled that the company is so disinterested.
The dealer is trying to help us out with a partial reimbursement on the two bad tires, but I don't expect them to refund us on the other two since they're not getting refunded from the tire manufacturer. The tire manufacturer told me they simply do not do direct-to-consumer warranty reimbursements.
Am I completely off-base in thinking these tires are defective and should be replaced by the manufacturer? What are the chances that two tires on the same vehicle would have belts slip/tread separation issues within a couple months of one another?
Any suggestions on how to procede or BTDT?
