Installing Diono RXT FF

Hi,
We have purchased a Diono RxT and would like to install it FF.
My husband looked at the videos on YouTube to install it with the UAS, but did nor manage to get a tight fit. He said that the car seat in the video is not the same one as the one we have (we are located in Canada).
Do you have any advice on how to install it? He said it may be better if we install it with the seatbelt. My DD is still under 40 pounds, so I'd rather he uses the UAS.
Thanks a lot!

What vehicle are you installing it in? Are you able to link which video he was viewing for help? How old is your little one?

Don't forget too that the safe stop needs to be used when installed forward facing for a child under 40lbs.

A few tips that sometimes help are to put your knee into the seat when tightening, push it into the back of the seat while tightening, try installing it in recline mode versus upright, and only check for movement at the belt path looking for less than 1" of movement in each direction.

If you can get a better install with the seat belt, it is just as safe (or safer if installed correctly versus not) as using UAS.

Thanks Jacqui.
The vehicle is a Hyundai elantra touring 2009.
I think this is the video he found:

I honestly haven't tried to install it myself (my hubby is not very resourceful!).

My daughter is going to turn 6 this year. She is on the petite side (she weighs 17kg for 107 cm).

Thanks for the reminder about UAS vs seatbelt. I don't know why, in my mind, UAS was somewhat safer than seatbelt.

Jenny, have you tried pulling back the cover on the side to expose the path that the belt/UAS strap is routed through? This sometimes helps to get a better angle for pulling the strap to remove slack.

Don't forget to top tether the seat and use the SafeStop :)

Hi Angela,
No I haven't. I will try to do it myself this coming week-end.
As I said, hubby has 2 left hands sometimes, so I am wondering if he's not doing it wrong.
Thanks!
Jenny

Yes, try this! There are even slits in the cover, held closed with Velcro. So you just open up the side next to the buckle, and put your hand through there to pull the belt tight.

Excellent, I will keep all your answers in mind when trying next week-end. Fingers crossed!

Let us know how it works out! If you want to take a picture of the seat from the buckle side it may help us give more suggestions.

You can also twist the female end of the buckle up to three full 360deg turns, this often helps as it moves the buckle away from the belt path.

Hello,
It's been a while, but I wanted to let you know that I finally installed the diono yesterday. Yeah!
I used the seatbelt, as it happens that my daughter has reached the 40lb limit for the UAS use.
I hope that the fit is tight enough. I pulled it as best as I could, and asked my hubby to try to pull it more.
My daughter loves the seat. I find it is very well designed (love the spots to out the belts away!).
Thanks again to all of you!
