I haven't noticed that ever happening to mine, but I have an older SK Monteray and I think the shell is gray not Black.

I'm thinking a Bergan might be overkill for him, but I doubt you'd get proper lap belt fit in a booster. Maybe a Frontier until he grows a little?

If I cram enough stuff in him he may hit the minimum weight RF in the Roundabout 50.

I haven't inspected the seat well enough to figure out what part of the seat is making the marks or tried to get the stain out.

Maybe I should send a picture to Diono.

Definitely. It looks like dye transfer to me. It can't be the shell because there would be a void where the adjuster handle is. I'd push for Diono to pay for a dry cleaner with experience in getting out dye or a new head restraint. Don't try to get it out yourself or you might force it to sink into deeper fibers if it's just on the surface.

If I get it clean how do I keep it from happening again? Would a thin piece of fabric over the headrest be a problem? I need to check for marks where it is now.

I have not had that happen. But I would put something over the headrest if you put the seat back there.
