I helped someone in Target today!

I saw a Mom looking at the boosters in Target today, all the while holding a box for a backless booster... I casually tapped the HB TB while walking by and said "that one... you want that one."

Mom laughed and said "oh yeah? do you have that one?"

I told her that I was a CPST and we wound up talking for about 10 minutes. She was looking at seats for her 3 year old . As soon as she said 3, I turned her towards the Triumph Advance, and started asking about height, weight.

She said that she didn't have head restraints, so I didn't recommend the Apex, but she was obviously on a budget. I ran the basics by her (shoulder height, head restraints, etc) and recommended she check online for a list of places that did car seat fittings here in town - I don't have any business cards yet.

She really seemed into it, and she was so grateful that I stopped to talk to her. She said "I can't believe I was going to put him in a booster like that... I had no idea about the head rests or any of that!"

:D I love helping people!

That's awesome! I would love to be able to help someone like that. I only know the very basics, but am learning :)

That is so cool, that is why I want to be a tech so I can feel like I know enough to really help

great feeling isn't it?
I helped a store out when I was doing reviews there, an elderly couple were looking for a grand child car seat (birth to 40lb) and I suggest our AHR restraint, saying it was the best choice in NZ for a child under 40lb.

she went away, (presumably to look at another baby store) can back and bought the AHR!!!

:2thumbsup:

That's terrific! I'm getting a warm fuzzy feeling just thinking about it, I can't imagine how much more you are!

Thats awesome that she was recepitive!! So many people arent. My ILs think I'm nuts, my SIL has my 4 year old barely 40 lbs nephew in a booster and he does NOT stay in it. they wont listen to me. My littl brother is expecting a baby girl in Dec, and I gave them my infant carrier on the condition that all car seat decisions for my neice would be approved by me first.

Congrats!!! I did the same thing with a dad once at Target. They were buying a high back booster for I think a 21 month old. The kid was big, no doubt, but nowhere near old enough. I told him also about higher weights and harness heights and later I saw their cart didn't have the booster anymore, it had a harnessed seat in it. :)

Good for you for speaking up and getting a three year old in a harness!!

Nice job!

I work at a daycare and on Wednesday I walked out with one of the kids who is ~3.5, his baby sister who is ~6 months, and his mom. I saw his MA and commented on how great it was and she mentioned she was buying him a booster and moving his sister up. Since I don't know the family all that well but my mom has a great relationship with them I printed out some brochures and my mom gave them to her and told her my concerns. I was so grateful I did because the mom said she had thought he was too young, too, but since her sister's son was a few months younger and in one she thought she was being voer protective! So, now he is staying in his seat!

I talked to a lady in Target last night! She was trying to put her 28 lbs 2 year old in a Graco Turbo booster. She had an Alpha Omega at home the child hated it and the mom couldn't get it installed correctly and they had to switch it back and forth several times a week into another car. Talked to her about HWH and some other seats that might be easier for her to install. Also got her the Safe Kids info so she could have it checked. She was so receptive and appreciative. The Target employee told her that the booster should be fine because the box said 30 lbs and she was almost 30 lbs! That's why I spoke up in the first place.
